Marriage at Hope - Agreement
At Hope, marriage is something we highly value as a gift of God. We are committed to helping couples have the best opportunity for a lifelong marriage that is God honoring and biblically based. Because we care about the health and well being of marriages, there are core commitments our ministers wish for all prospective couples to embrace and to which they are asked to agree:
1. MEMBERSHIP: When a member of Hope Church (someone who has participated in our Discover Hope class, embraced the five points of commitment for membership, and joined the church) requests to be married, our pastors prayerfully consider each request. In membership and in marriage, commitment is a foundation for relationship. Our Discover Hope membership classes are offered quarterly.
2. BOOK ON LOVE: Our view of marriage is based on the Bible. In advance of the wedding, you are asked to attend and complete a weekend seminar, “The Book on Love.” “The Book on Love” offers pre-marriage preparation and teaching providing a biblical vision for Christian marriage.
3. ABSTINENCE: God has created human sexual intimacy as a profound gift to be shared by a man and a woman who have promised to protect the sacredness of this gift through a marriage covenant. To be married at Hope, a couple will agree to abstain from a sexual relationship from this time forward, until they are married.
